We struggle within, our battles fought
As helpless creatures in a web caught,
And seek in our circumstance to blame
An outer force because we are lame.
God help us ignore the pains of earth
And carve our handicaps into worth
By learning to use the common sword
That shapes our success or lost reward.
God help us to learn that which we seek
Is given to all, the strong and the weak.
For choice is our gift—an every day tool
That guides the wise and the stumbling fool.
